Most of the times I tend to see things from a very realistic view. I can accept and believe only the things I actually see happening. If I see something that seems unbelievable, I try to explain it. Of course, the major secrets in universe and life have not been explained yet. So this is when I enjoy making assumptions for several things. I don’t want to be misunderstood; those assumptions are likely to be wrong, but most of the times you can have a little fun and see things from different views when you make them.
So, my question for today is: What if humans had no soul? What if you exist only when you are living and being able to think and feel?
When I first thought of that question I immediately continued to think: No, this can be true. There is no way we exist only when we are alive. No one can believe this. All religions in the world believe that people have a future after death.
With those assumptions let’s do an experiment: Let’s consider that we can save the current information that exists on a human brain somehow. If that is only what makes him alive then if you actually had all the information you could save a human as information. And if you can recover this information to one or several other people then you would have humans thinking that they are alive and being the same persons (at the very moment of waking them up). They would have the same experiences, feelings, etc. Of course from the time they get alive, all things will start to get different for them.
And now consider the following thought: What makes you think that every morning you are still alive and not died while you were asleep? If you actually died while you were sleeping and then someone could wake you up with the thoughts and feelings that you actually had to think and feel in the morning if you hadn’t die how would you know? What actually matters is that when you wake up you remember what you did last night, last week, your whole life. You are actually the same person only because you remember and you can recall what you did before.
Another experiment then comes into place: What makes you think that your thoughts and feelings are actually yours. They part of the universe after all aren’t they? If you think something, it is happening as a set of actions / events (biological ones) which are part of the universe and secondly part of your brain. So when you are thinking, something happens to the whole universe not just your brain. You actually think that you are a separate existence only because you have a limited view of what the universe is. So if your thoughts are part of the universe, along with the thoughts from other people then the whole universe thinks something, which is a collection of all thoughts. It is alive and thinking.
So what happens if you die? Well, from the limited point of view that your existence had, you stop filling anything. You won’t exist again in the same way, only because there in nobody that can have the exact same experiences with you. If you think this from the wider view of the universe, only one small thought stopped to function. It will be just another experience for it, because it will continue to think of other things. It would be exactly like waking up in the morning and not remembering what you had for dinner yesterday. So in fact you are not dying.
The question that immediately raises is simple: If humans won’t exist anymore does it mean that the universe will be dead? Of course not! We assumed that humans are only thoughts and feelings. Thoughts and feelings are actions performed by the brain. They are a physical process just like the movement of the planets, or the movement of the quarks is. One thought can result to a feeling just like one meteor can results to a change of a planets’ surface.
So in fact, if you assume that no soul exists, people are immortal. Someone (the universe) is thinking (performing a set of actions like the biological actions of the brain which result to thoughts and feelings) whatever you think and will continue to think after you die. Your own thoughts will be a memory, just like your thoughts are after you wake up each morning.
I don’t think we can explain death or life. It’s very dangerous for people to suppose they have the answers – it’s then when the questions will change.
You live now in the present moment where love exists – that’s enough. People wonder where God is, how God came into being, is there a God, etc. but these queries miss the point and form in a narrow set of impulses.
i believe that you are very much correct. In the end time will appear very different to us than it does now. Consider a limestone outcropping as opposed to a stopwatch. It occurs to me occasionally that there is only one life that has to take turns being all of us…from GWBush to the mighty liverwort… in which case i find myself in the odd position of emailing myself again… drat!
John i know that your mind is running the show in your head all the time, apparently even when you sleep. I dig your questioning; tho…,,, how does it follow logically that if you have no soul therefore you are immortal?
Thinking is what your brain does. But there is more to life than thinking. There are many ways for humans to process information other than that constant brain yaking yaking forever never sleeping. If you could make a CD or DVD of your brain and play it back you might discover that there is so much data imput on it that you have to turn it off. Cuz dear brother the universe is vast and the infinite layers of reality that you have trained yourself to filter out all these years is there all the time while your thoughts distract you from what is really true. Regular meditation will allow the mind to stop for a while, then other observations will draw you into possibilities that might shock you but they might also be strangely familiar somehow. This awake place is the dream. Dreaming is more than real. Everything we think is bullshit. Its data. Thinking is good for problem solving others needs. Thats all it is good for. Its a computer. The soul does not think. It is. Its about beingness. If you can just be ~ without thinking ~ let me know how that is.
Is God immortal? And who is your creator? God? Would a loving, immortal being capable of birthing your spirit/soul create something that dies? Does any loving father or mother kill their young?
Our energy and spirit are more vast than we can even dream.

Interesting point of view…
I was thinking about the dead and the possibilities after it. One of the possibilities it’s the fact that the people never die to themselves. People always die to other people, and, when it’s happening, people made a travel between dimensions. So, the ‘dead’ it’s a way to explain the complex idea of ‘infinity’, giving an end that isn’t there.
Actually memory isn’t spatio-temporal in the brain, i.e. there’s no specific point in which memory is stored. The brain operates holographically, meaning every bit contains the whole (Karl Pribram). A noted quantum physicist David Bohm independently came to the conclusion that the universe is holographic.
If questions concerning the nature of reality and human consciousness seek answers, I found many in a fascinating book called The Holographic Universe by Michael Talbot.
Also, here’s David Icke talking about the nature of life: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=733382654820436671&q=secrets+matrix+icke
My friend ad I have talked about a subject like this, the actual nature of the soul. We agreed that it was more of a body of energy, possibly controlled by the brain, that stored spiritual energy or chi. This, we found, explain the Wiccan tradition, as well as others that focus on energy manipulation.
This energy would not be destroyed or disappear after death, but be recycled, as you said, within the universe.
In a way, the soul is immortal, and specific parts of the individual could imprint on the energy, but it is the energy that is immortal, and not so much the individual.
If u really want to know everything, theres only one way to do it, you just have to die and find out yourself if there really are GOD’S. all humans are stupid, u know I never believed in anything even science couse I thing what religious people call SOUL is the same as what scientist’s call MIND.
GOD’s are made by humans couse humans gave them name’s and atatues.
Just remember there are no accidents and fate in this world
I believe that this so called reality is merely like the matrix. we are all conected to each other but at the same time separate. this is why you can meet someone new and feel like you have known them for ever. really this is just a dream so anything is possible if you believe it is. but hey just my view. oh and having no soul is like being in hell it’s self, just saying
